... she's wide-eyed and innocent, but keeps a sharp little switch-blade hidden in her pink faux-leather purse to prick pomposity and pretentiousness. Mostly though she just wants to have a good time. Please note, if you message me and I do not answer it always means I am not at my computer. Even if Stumble shows me as being online (which it sometimes does incorrectly) I may be either wandering aimlessly or hiding in the cupboard to escape my aunt or performing some menial task for the cat ..:)).. ellie .. (P.s. - each page is a different 'theme' so whatever is on the first page isn't what the blog is 'about'. Click through a few pages and you'll see what I mean)

Understand what an SU 'friend' is - the concept of an SU 'friend' confuses a lot of people. The word 'subscriber' would be more accurate. By adding someone as an SU 'friend' you're simply saying you want to receive notice on your 'whats new' page of their new posts. You therefore don't need permission to add someone (subscribe to their posts) and it doesn't logically follow that they will add you back as a 'mutual' friend so don't take it as a slight if they don't.
Be Friendly - you're under absolutely no obligation to talk to anyone here but having people to chat to can make it a lot more fun. Don't jump down someones throat just because they say hello. Don't be afraid to break the ice by messaging someone but be respectful and don't hit on them. Thats guaranteed to annoy.
Review - reviewing other SU sites is a good way of becoming part of the community and one of the best ways to introduce yourself is to review some sites you really like and drop the stumblers a quick message saying why you like them. Actually take the time to look at the site properly and try to say something specific. Say whats good about it, why you like it. Thats helpful and interesting.
Ask for Help - I'm sure you won't be as dozy as I was about how to use SU when I started, but if something confuses you ask someone. If you see something on an SU site you like and don't know how to do it theres no harm in asking the person how its done. Everyone I've asked here has been really helpful. Theres a good SU Help Forum where you can ask questions too and Mr-Helpful has an SU site with lots of quite useful advice on how to make links and post pictures etc. The SU 'unofficial' FAQ (helpful) is Here
Try Firefox - I think (but what do I know? ) that SU is designed to work best on Firefox. Certainly on my computer back-to-back Firefox is noticeably faster than IE Explorer. Its free so if it doesn't work better for you then you've lost nothing. Download Firefox Here
Try the unnoficial SU toolbar addon - its a Firefox addon that adds a lot of useful functionality to the normal SU toolbar. For example, changing your filter settings between X, R and G is difficult and not at all intuitive on the standard SU. This unnoficial toolbar makes it extremely easy and is probably one of the main reasons that people use it. Get it Here
Play Nice - its very easy to get your feelings hurt online because some people use the anonymity it provides to behave badly. Generally the best thing to do with bullies and assholes here is block them so you just don't see their drivel. Entering into tit-for-tat cyber-wars will only drain you in the end and feed their ego-trips. But people on SU, as in any society, can only say what they want within limits and SU will terminate their accounts if they exceed them. Personal abuse is *never* OK, in messages or reviews, so *never* put up with it from anyone.
Give Credit - everyone swipes pictures from everyone else on SU, and we all swipe them from outside of SU so knowing who to credit for any given image, which might have appeared on dozens of SU sites, is very difficult but where it is possible its polite to do so. Lots of SU bloggers write poetry or stories or post other personal creative stuff and here ownership is *always* perfectly clear so ask permission to use and give them a link and a credit.
